Career ProfileDr Thomas qualified from University of Wales College of Medicine in 1988. She became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1991 and has been a Fellow of the College since 2000, having obtained a doctorate in medicine (MD) in that same year. Her training in gastroenterology was in Bristol, Guys Hospital and South Wales. Her academic and research activity include publication of more than twenty peer reviewed papers and Honorary Senior Lectureship in the University of Swansea. She has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist in Swansea since 2000.
Specialist Interests
Dr. Thomas has specialised in Gastroenterology since 1991 and has extensive experience in that field, as well as in General Medicine. Her special interests include the management of inflammatory bowel disease.
She is the Clinical Lead across the Trust for Nutrition, which often can become a problem in gut disorders.
Dr. Thomas also has a wide base of experience in the management of all functional gut disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome and non ulcer dyspepsia.
Her endoscopic skills are reflected by the fact she is highly involved in the endoscopy training within Wales, she not only teaches on the courses but also organises the colonoscopy training courses held in Swansea.
Most recently she has become an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening colonoscopist, and is now an assessor and trainer for appointing further colonoscopists to expand the service within Wales.
