Career Profile

Mr Brown qualified from the University of Leeds School of Medicine in 1978. He undertook his initial surgical training in Leeds and nearby hospitals, and gained his FRCS. Following this he moved to Manchester for further training. During this period he spent a year and a half carrying out research in the University of Louisville, Kentucky, USA, which formed the basis for his MD.

He did his Senior Registrar training in the Manchester Hospitals gaining experience in general surgery, and later in upper gastro-intestinal and pancreatico-biliary surgery. He was appointed as a Consultant in General and Upper Gastro-intestinal Surgery to Morriston Hospital in August 1995.

 

Specialist Interests

Mr Brown has experience across general surgery, and especially gastrointestinal and hernia surgery. His particular expertise is with laparoscopic biliary (gall bladder) and splenic surgery, pancreatic surgery, and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (gastroscopy). He is a member of the Association of Surgeons, the Association of Upper Gastro-intestinal Surgeons, the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons, the British Society of Gastroenterology and the Pancreatic Society (Committee Member).

He has experience in medical legal practice especially related to general surgical trauma, and in relation to pancreatic and biliary disease. This includes providing reports to the Welsh Legal Health Board on biliary complications.
