Statement

John Williams is Professor of Health Servces Research at the School of Medicine, Swansea University, and Consultant Gastroenterologist at Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust. From 2002-07 he was Director of R&D for Wales, a post in which he established the Clinical Research Collaboration in Wales (CRC Cymru). His clinical expertise includes the broad spectrum of gastrointestinal and liver diseases, but he has a special interest in dyspeptic disorders, irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease. His research interests include the development and evaluation of clinical interventions, and new models of service delivery, particularly in gastroenterology, and the greater involvement of patients in the process. He presently chairs a Board Subgroup for the UK Clinical Research Collaboration to raise public awareness of the benefits of patient data being used for research, and is a member of the OSCHR e-Health Board. He has a longstanding interest in improving information systems that support patient care, and set-up and directs a Health Informatics Unit at the Royal College of Physicians of London.
