Frequently asked questions
Do I have to be insured?
No. HMT hospitals welcome those who do not have private medical insurance, or whose insurance does not cover the treatment they need.
How do I arrange one-off private treatment?
Simply call the HMT hospital nearest to you and ask about an initial consultation. Staff will also be able discuss costs and payment options.
How do I choose a consultant?
Talking to your GP is often the first route to choosing a consultant. For most self-pay treatment, you’ll need a GP referral letter to bring to your first appointment.
If you wish to choose a consultant yourself, this is also possible. You can either get a recommendation from friends and family or use our consultant search to view profiles of consultants working in HMT hospitals.
Will I see the same consultant every time?
Yes. Whenever possible the same consultant will care for you from the first appointment through to any follow up care.
As a self-pay patient, will I have a single room?
The privacy and dignity of our patients is always a priority. Day case patients and those staying for one night or longer will usually be allocated a single room. All rooms are equipped to a high standard most have en-suite facilities.
How can I pay?
Full payment is required before you admission date. Cash, cheque and all major credit cards are accepted. We can also organise finance options if required.
