Abdominal reduction (also known as a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty) is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the middle or lower abdomen and to tighten the abdominal muscles.
Multiple pregnancies and marked fluctuations in weight are most frequently responsible, as they stretch the abdominal wall tissues. When the deeper elastic structures of the skin (dermis) are torn, stretch marks can result.
